Thanks!
Mrs. Breen
When you say "our ancestors" you mean people from the past like, Martin Luther King Jr, George W Bush, and people like that?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't need to be so specific, read the poem and you will get the gist of what I am asking you to do.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Am I suppose to type my poem then pass it in to you the next day of class, or post it somewhere on here?
ReplyDeletedraft :) If we ever have school again... we will share for revision.
ReplyDeleteCan we be as general as the Mayans?
ReplyDeleteDear Marlyssa,
ReplyDeleteWriting of the Mayan civilization commands specificity (which is to say that writing about the Mayans would constitute as a specific manner of writing rather than a general one). I’m assuming (something I try never to do) that your question is whether or not your range of ideas can extend beyond present-day. And my answer, based upon assumption (ggr!), is yes. When approaching an assignment like this, I like to use a metric – something to guide my literary approach – and “For My People” was not confined to the reality of the era in which it was written (1942). So, unless Mrs. Breen directs otherwise, I would say speaking of Man’s existence, dating back even thousands of years, is perfectly kosher! In fact, it’s a spectacular approach because it opens so many doors for creativity, something you, unlike me, are great at utilizing.

Thank you, Nicholas. I am absolutely speaking about historic roots!

ReplyDeleteso we DONT write about OUR ancestors? or we DO?
ReplyDelete@Stephanie YES we DO write about our ancestors.
ReplyDeleteHey to any one who is reading this comment does this sound good or is it too I don't know bad?
ReplyDeleteMy ancestors, the people who would stand in the sun for hours.
The people who would build temples.
Who would create beautiful paintings.
The people who worshipped the gods.
Who killed people as sacrifices
The people who read the stars.
Who farmed for food.
The people who loved math and science.
Marlyssa: its good but i read it like its kind of all over the place, you should put more description to each line you write.
